mapping Domain URL problems

I didn’t see your reply till after I clicked submit on mine and there is no way it took 4 minutes for me to write that. The forum is strange tonight. Must be the full moon.

thesacredpath: “OK, osharoot, if you bought the domain name first, then wordpress probably created that blog for you so that you would have somewhere to map it, otherwise it would be just a domain name without a home.”
So if that is something that happens… Why doesn’t anyone tell you that that is what happens?
I will wait. I will forget about the fact that there might be a misspelling that I cannot check to see if I made and I will possibly miss my chance to get a refund if that is the case. I have faith that this is going to work out alright.
But what, exactly, do I do next? If I have the domain name communityherbalism.com, does that mean I automatically will have a blog called communityherbalism.com? Do I have to create that? If I try to create it now (before the dust has settled) it gives me two options – either communityherbalism.wordpress.com, which it says I already have, or purchase the name I’ve already purchased as a domain, which it then says I can’t do, because it already exists.

I can’t remember anyone buying a domain name before creating the blog, so I don’t have any idea if this is a new thing or if it is something that has happened all along.
What I do know is that there has to be a blog set up otherwise there is nothing to map the domain too.
The thing is, once the mapping takes effect, you will not see that long name ending in dotcom again.
I’m kind of guessing here, but my feeling is that communityherbalism.com will be mapped to the communityherbalismdotcom.wordpress.com blog, so you right now have a blog.
I’ve tagged this thread for staff attention so hopefully they will either reply here or get back to you via email soon.

Hopefully, you have contacted us through the link given above, but if not, this is the rough timeline for purchasing a new domain from us:
1) Create a blog on WordPress.com.
2) Go to the Upgrades panel of your Dashboard.
3) Purchase the domain.
4) Wait a few hours (new domains do not take nearly as long as existing ones to propagate).
5) Go to Upgrades > Domains in your Dashboard and switch the primary domain to the one you bought. That’s all you need to do to get a newly-purchased domain working with WordPress.com.
If you already have an existing domain, the process is somewhat similar, but instead of buying the domain from us, you have to make changes to your existing domain records.

I STILL don’t understand what to do.
I have two blogs. One is my username, so I know I have to keep that one.
The other has the funny …dotcom.wordpress.com problem.
I have a domain name. I bought it from you. The one that I want. It is listed under Domains. But nothing matches up. I don’t have a blog with the name I want. The domain doesn’t function (that is, from the internet, one cannot get to a blog that is by me).
I have to say, although I appreciate all the help, this is extraordinarily frustrating. And I feel like it could probably have been resolved with a 10-15 minute telephone conversation… A walk-through of the whole process. The old fashioned kind of support.
I already sent 3 emails to “support” yesterday and have heard nothing back.

God I want a phone number to call to talk to a person. I want an actual “fixer of problems” to be on the case, live, talking me through this.

There is no such thing. Markel is staff, so as long as you’ve contacted staff via that link they KNOW you want this straightened out and it if it can’t be, you want your money back. They’ll make good on that.
If you haven’t received an email reply from them, check your Spam filter. The messages often go there.

Still no messages from anyone in support, nor in spam.
Markel, if you are staff, could you get back to me? -
I’ve tagged this thread again for staff attention. That is about all we can do at this point. We volunteers sadly have no magic when it comes to staff.
-
okay!!!
Now we are getting somewhere.
My account has been credited and I have been told to start over from the beginning.
What I would like to do is start a new forum so that the entire process, step-by-tiny-step can be explained to me so that I can do it correctly. Is this a good idea?
I really don’t want to repeat everything wrong a second time.
