Mapping domains & subdomains using PERSONAL plan?
-
Hi
I’m a little confused about the term ‘custom domain’ as offered in the 3 paid plans on offer from WordPress.
Can I map a domain or subdomain registered elsewhere to my (currently free) wordpress blog if I purchase the PERSONAL plan?
The ‘custom domain’ feature is offered in all 3 of the available WordPress plans and appears to be the same for each, but it defaults to ‘Premium’ with no flexibility if I click to add a domain and then choose the registered elsewhere option.
I don’t want to purchase the personal plan if I can’t then point my registered elsewhere domain or subdomain to my WordPress blog. Neither do I wish to purchase the Premium plan at this time. Maybe later.
Help appreciated. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
With all the plans Personal, Premium or Business you can still use your custom domain which you have already registered elsewhere for free only for One domain.
Or
You get a free domain credit if you do not want to map your own domain(you cannot have both at the same time), once you upgrade you’ll find the option which says’s claim free domain.Let me know if this helps, let us know if you have further questions.

Yes. You can use the domain credit for a newly registered domain through WordPress.com or to map one that you already own.
Domain mapping is no longer available as a stand alone upgrade and is included with our plans. You’ll need a plan in order to map your domain.
My advice is to pick your plan out via wordpress.com/pricing/ and add it to your account. Next, you’ll click on My Sites > Domains > Add > Map it! to connect your domain to your account.
These are the step-by-step instructions to map your domain: https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/
Let me know if you have any other questions!
