mapping existing domain to wordpress concerns

    Is it true that mapping my existing domain to my wordpress blog will help my SEO?
    If so, is there anything I need to be concerned about other than updating my mx records to assure my email address keeps functioning?

    Well, no, technically it will not unless your existing domain has a ton of links incoming already. If it does, then absolutely. Otherwise, the subdomain of a popular domain, ie whatever.wordpress.com always outranks whatever.com, all other things being equal.

    And in terms of what you need to be concerned about, have you read the Support documents about domain mapping? Also, be sure to set whichever URL you want to be dominant as Primary. Your uploaded files, however, will always have whatever.wordpress.com URLs, regardless of domain mapping. There’s no workaround for that.
