    Can I map a domain name that is registered with one company and hosted with another?

    Hosted by another? Do you mean wordpress.com?

    In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from to the domain URL. If you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog and purchase a domain name by purchasing an annually renewable domain mapping upgrade for the blog.

    Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades is where you do the primary blog set up knowing it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet.     Hah! Patience.

    Thanks for your answer. One of the things that I have yet to be answered is: If you have a site up and hosted (not just a registered domain name), and you want to point to a WordPress blog that you have created, what happens to the email address that is associated with that site. I was chatting with someone at WordPress who kinda sorta knew what I was supposed to do. I called the hosting company and they said that I needed to get the Shared IP address (which I did) and that WordPress would create a MX record . Now what. And what is happening to my emails at this moment. I might not have done this had I known my emails would be affected. Where are my emails going and what do I need to do to fix this. Very frustrated.
