Mapping mistake? Can no longer access site.
-
I was trying to map a domain I own to my current WordPress site. When I type in my website katcophotography.com, it reroutes to katcaraway.com, which I want, but I receive this message *Warning! Domain mapping upgrade for this domain not found. Please log in and go to the Domains Upgrades page of your blog to use this domain.*
When I try to go back and undo what I think I did wrong it just takes me to this screen again with the same warning. What can I do?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The domain katcophotography.com seems to be pointing to Bluehost, but katcaraway.com is still pointed to WordPress.com by A records. Which host are you intending to use?

My original site is katcophotography.com. I was attempting to change the domain to katcaraway.com but still have katcophotography.com active so my previous clients with the old address and new clients with the new address will be directed to the same place. To answer your question, I would ideally like to begin using katcaraway.com

So if I understand, you’re keeping Bluehost and the site that was katcophotography.com, but you want to change the address to katcaraway.com. That means you need to login to GoDaddy and change the settings on katcaraway.com to point to Bluehost instead of to WordPress.com. Make sure to check with Bluehost on how to link a new domain to your account with them.
Right now, the domains are pointed to two different hosts. You want them to point to the same host to load the same content.
From here, WordPress.com just manages support of sites on these servers. You won’t map to WordPress.com or use a plan here if your site is hosted by Bluehost. Hope that helps to clarify!

Well I went into the WP Admin menu then to the settings and there were two spots where I changed the html from katcophotography.com to katcaraway.com. Once I hit save I was kicked out and started receiving that message but now I can’t get back in that menu to change it back and I keep getting kicked out. I’m attempting to do as you suggested but based on what I just mentioned, do you have any other possible solutions for getting back in the WP Admin settings menu? I can’t remember what the exact settings were that I changed, I just stupidly thought that if I changed where I saw the current domain and input the new one I also own it would work… and here we are ha

In my Jetpack activity log I just found that I changed the Website address (home url) and WordPress address (site url) to katcaraway.com from katcophotography.com. If I could just figure out how to change those back I think my problem can be fixed. The only issue is as I mentioned before, I did it in the WP Admin settings but I’m now no longer able to access those settings as it gives me the error code stated above.

Changing the domain that is on the site to point to the correct server is the best solution, since it’s what you need to do in the end to fix this.
Changing it back is another solution, but not the best one. You can change the site URL in a WordPress.org site some additional ways. See this page: https://wordpress.org/support/article/changing-the-site-url/
This can’t be changed via WordPress.com. WordPress.com is just your Jetpack connection, and it does not host your site. WordPress.com and WordPress.org are a little separate, and that can be confusing.

Welp…In the midst of trying to fix this issue I have somehow now disconnected my site and I have no idea where it is. I’ve been doing so much research and I’m just getting no where. Any additional help on this new situation is greatly appreciated, I’m about to the point where I just want to disconnect my domain and create a new site from scratch.

Your site is on Bluehost. It’s not on WordPress.com, and Jetpack cannot connect due to the domain mixup. You won’t fix this at WordPress.com, but with your host. Additional help with your site will be at WordPress.org going forward, as the WordPress.com forums only support sites on WordPress.com.
To recap your fixes, and it’s an either/or thing:
1. Login to GoDaddy and point the new domain to Bluehost, OR
2. Login to Bluehost and change the site URL back to the old domain. -
Yes I’m trying to do those things but now the site is no longer under “My Sites” so I can’t access it at all even if I do get my first issue fixed.
-
You’re in the wrong website. My Sites is for WordPress.com hosted and Jetpack connected sites. Jetpack cannot connect due to the domain issue, so you cannot manage the site in WordPress.com. Additionally, the setting you want to change is not available here for self hosted WordPress.org sites.
You need to login to your Bluehost hosting first, then follow one of the guides in this link:
https://wordpress.org/support/article/changing-the-site-url/Or login to GoDaddy and change the new domain DNS to point to Bluehost.
