Mapping my domain

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi all

I need your help. I am thinking about mapping my domain on wordpress.com, but I have got few problems. I am hosting my domain on my server as I am using my own custom template, so if I want to mapping my domain on wordpress, can I be able to get access to my blog posts when I am hosting my domain on my server at the same time?

If so, I want to know how I can get access to the blog posts without the date at the end of the url? e.g: mydomain.com/my-blog-post-name/?

Is it possible to do that?

How much it is cost me to add my domain on my account to allow me to mapping my domain?

I have checking and it say it will cost me £84 to host. I guess the cost is incorrect as I am not going to pay for it if it will cost me £84.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hello there,

if you are currently using your domain for your site on your own server, then you can’t map its name servers someplace else. You can only use a domain in one place at a time, otherwise the internet wouldn’t know where to route the URL request. :) It could be possible if you map to a subdomain of your domain, for example blog.mydomain.net Here’s more on mapping to a subdomain: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-subdomain/

how I can get access to the blog posts without the date at the end of the url? e.g: mydomain.com/my-blog-post-name/?

All WordPressdotcom blog URL’s use the domain/date/post-title permalink structure. With the exception of the Business plan upgrade, it’s not possible to change that structure.

How much it is cost me to add my domain on my account to allow me to mapping my domain?

Each plan has its own set of features, but the Personal plan upgrade also includes domain mapping. If you want that, then add that to your cart first before mapping your domain.

Hope that helps and let us know if you need more information.

Thanks for your advice guys. I understand that there is no way I can host one domain on two different servers at the same time when I want to get access to my blog posts and my custom template.

However, I have found the solution. You would need to download the file and upload the files to your own server and add it to the database, so you can be able to host wordpress on your server at the same time you can be able to hosting your domain and you can be able to use your own wordpress theme.

If someone would like to know where I got the files from, here it is: https://wordpress.org/
