Mapping my domain

I just got my domain from google, but I have to wait 60 days to be able to transfer it to wordpress. If I map my domain now, without transferring it over, will I be able to transfer everything over after the 60 days? This way, I will still be able to use my purchased domain for the 60 days

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

If you just bought your domain you won’t be able to transfer it yet, no, but you can still map it using any of our paid plans, yes.

Once the 60-day transfer lock is over on Google’s end, you can then transfer the domain to us at no additional cost, as long as you haven’t used the free domain included in your plan for a different domain.

You won’t need to transfer anything else – your content will already be hosted on our servers, as you’re creating your site here, and the domain will already be connected to your site. Transferring the domain will only change where you go to renew your domain each year (the transfer will automatically renew it for another year, by the way).

So to map my custom domain to here, I need to pay monthly for a plan? But I own the domain, so why does it cost? All I want is to continue using WordPress to edit my site, and have my site as my custom domain.

What is the minimum package for this? Seems a bit silly to me at the minute

  • You’ll need a paid plan, any paid plan, to set your custom domain as the primary domain: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/#set-a-primary-address

And all paid plans include one free domain registration, transfer, or mapping.

So, in this case, the lowest option would be the Personal Plan at $48/year or $7/month: https://wordpress.com/pricing/
