Why does my URL still say dogsrcoolblog. I purchased mapping of my domain name from go daddy for it to say dogsrcool.com. Thanks, Marianne

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • I am seeing http://dogsrcool.com/ point correctly to your WordPress.com site.

It can take 24-48 hours for domain/DNS changes to propagate throughout the internet. It typically happens faster than that, but it really depends on your ISPs update frequency. If you are still not seeing the correct site appear after 48 hours has elapsed, please contact me again.

Also, do let me know if you have further questions or if anything is unclear.

Thanks so much for your response. When I type in : http://www.dogsrcool.com it still says this site is unavailable. But I will wait and see what happens today. Thanks so much, Marianne

  • It appears that you have canceled the domain mapping upgrade. Did you do that on purpose? Domain Mapping is required for dogsrcool.com to point to your WordPress.com site.

If Domain Mapping was canceled by accident, let me know and I can help you get it set back up again.

Thanks. I did cancel because I didn’t know that I couldn’t link my etsy and cafe press shops . Also, I didn’t know that there might be adds put on blog. Guess I should have learned that beforehand. I did cancel my mapping upgrade and I assume that will be refunded. Thanks for your support. I guess there is another word press that I can set up and get features i want but it will be more money and I have to go through a hosting site. Is that correct? I’m not real tech saavy but I’m trying to learn. I’ve been told that host gator or bluehost are good. Do you have any suggestions?? Thanks for your help, marianne

  • Yes, I am seeing a refund as being processed for that transaction. It may take 7-10 days from the refund date to show on your credit statement.

What you are looking for is a self-hosted site using the WordPress software available form WordPress.org.

We’ve got a quick primer on the differences between .com and .org here:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

I’ve set up many self-hosted sites. It’s a little trickier than a .com site. But it’s nothing terrible and there is a large user support community on WordPress.org.

    Best of luck!
