Mapping of own Domain
-
I purchased a domain when I was using Weebly. It is expiring next year, but I would like to map my site on WordPress with that domain. I saw there are different packages while I am following the steps. It was written 13$ but following the step, it is written 99$ saying I need to upgrade to premium package. I have already had a domain already, why should I pay to get the free domain? And personal package also includes the free domain. Why should I default to purchase premium package? Is it necessary to purchase premium package for mapping? Or there is another option which is more appropriate for my case?

Hi, @octoberfourteenth.
You can have free WordPress plan using an address such as yourdomain.wordpress.com. But if you want to map a domain you already own you will need an upgraded plan, at least the Personal Plan. You can see the differences between each plan here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/
Once you subscribe to a plan you will have a credit that you can use to map your domain. Here is step-by-step to map your domain: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/.
Hope that helps. Let me know if you still have any question.

Hi octoberfourteenth,
Just adding on to what @guicmazeredo said, domain mapping is available with the Personal Plan, but you need to add the plan first or else it will automatically select the Premium Plan as you described.
This is explained by staff in this thread: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/custom-domain-89?replies=6#post-2882612
Feel free to post again here if you have further questions about this.
