MAPPING THE BLOG

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello WordPress Experts,

No news yet. I entered “thestupidcommonman.com” and it directed me to “mohammedrafiqlodhia. wordpress.com.

I changed the settings and would like to know how long it will take for the change to take place. I mean, If I click on “thestupidcommonman.com” it should be directed to the blog and not to “mohammedrafiqlodhia.wordpress.com”

    Thanks,

    Rafiq

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Take a long walk & have a Latte or what ever you like

    Hold Your Horses!

It can take as long as 72 hours for DNS changes to become widely available. If you’re still not seeing your site loading at thestupidcommonman.com, please wait a few more hours, clear your browser cache, and try again.
    Nameservers Validated!

Congratulations! The nameservers appear to be set up correctly for thestupidcommonman.com.

    More Information
    Primary Blog is Set

thestupidcommonman.com is set as the primary domain for mohammedrafiqlodhia.wordpress.com and will appear in the address bar when you visit the site.

  • Unknown's avatar

Holding horses is not a problem. The real problem is that when I go to the blog, it takes me to mohammedrafiqlodhia.wordpress.com. This is not what I want. It should take the visitor directly to my blog and not
    my major blog.

Though, I did changed the settings again to make the original one my
    primary domain, that is, “mohammedrafiqlodhia.wordpress.com”

By the way, I just called “GoDaddy” and they send me a screen shot
saying that when they typed in “thestupidcommonman.com” they
got WordPress “Password” window. This is strange.

Granted things like this takes time, but having paid $ 13 to map the
domain so that my YouTube would function properly, therefore, I do
not know what happened. I followed everything as guided by your
    group.

  • Unknown's avatar

You don’t need to map a domain to use Youtube.

Your custom URL sends me to a private WordPress.com blog. Your non-custom domain sends me to the same blog. Is this not what you want?

I don’t know what you mean by “my major blog.”

  • Unknown's avatar

    My major blog is “mohammedrafiqlodhia.wordpress.com”

The truth of the matter is, the reason I map the domain is because
from “GoDaddy,” I forwarded to “thestupidcommonman.wordpress.
com.” Recently, I found out that all of my YouTube links were not
functioning properly, hence, I believe it was TimeThief who suggested that I should map the domain.

Druesome informed me to change the name servers to point to
WordPress, and that is what I did.

  • Unknown's avatar

Now, if you click on “whythesilence.com” it is working fine. This domain is with “GoDaddy,” but it is forwarded to “whythesilence.wordpress.com”
    blog.

Well, I do not know why one works and the other doesn’t? Your guess is as good as mine!

  • Unknown's avatar

you have whythesilence.com – as domain forwarded – NOT domain mapped – that is why you are just dumped on whythesilence.wordpress.com – that is how domain forwarding works – listening to Godaddy is almost always bad

you need domain mapping for whythesilence.com – you will also need to undo the forwarding and fix the name servers

    No Domain Mapping Found

There is no domain mapping upgrade for whythesilence.com. If you would like to use this domain you will first need to set up domain mapping.

There is information on how to set up domain mapping in our support documentation. If you need help after that, please contact our support team.

You are sort of right about “GoDaddy” advises. They are not too bright so to speak.

I do not mind purchasing domain mapping for “whythesilence.com”
That is not an issue at all. My immediate concern is to see if the one
“thestupidcommonman.com” works within the next couple of days.

Then again, I am not sure if the domain mapping which I did for
the stupid common man is done correctly or not?

I am just a layman who learned how to make blog. Thanks for all
the help received from your WordPress team.

  • Unknown's avatar

http://thestupidcommonman.com/ – works fine for me – sends me to a WordPress.COM blog that is set to Private

  • Unknown's avatar

Here is the point. I do not want to set it to “Private.” I want it to be open to all the browser. I reckon this is the sticky point which you must try
    to address.

Strangely, if I type the blog name, it takes me to my parent blog:
mohammedrafiqlodhia.wordpress.com . Now that is really confusing
    as hell.

  • Unknown's avatar

During the 72 hour propagation period while changes reach the far corners of the internet – access will be erratic – you are probably having local caching issues – try clearing your browser cache

The “Private” is not related to the domain mapping – it is at

Dashboard >> Settings >> Reading >> set to allow site to be indexed and visited by everyone – remember to save changes

then please – take the long walk and don’t change anything – serious

  • Unknown's avatar

You bet, I will take a long walk. No latte, but Einstein Brothers bagel with extra cream cheese, please.

I will go to dashboard and set it the reading to be visited by everyone.
If I run into trouble I will give you a jingle

    God Bless.

  • Unknown's avatar

One more thing, how do I change the color on the tag line of
    “thestupidcommonman.com” that is, “common sense ……. “
in brown color? I am sure it is doable, but it probably needs a
color code to be added on CSS panel.

  • Unknown's avatar

I am not sure about the tagline color – don’t know if it can be changed without the CSS upgrade – look around under

    Dashboard >> Appearance

Or open a new thread and ask about the tagline in it – please also give the Theme name in the new thread

  • Unknown's avatar

O.K. i shall do so, my friend. I think adding color is too technical.
Sacred Path help me out a lot to set up the header. Not sure,
    where he is?

Have a good night. God Bless everyone at WordPress.

TSP is in Texas (most of the time) and hangs out in the CSS forum now.

  • Unknown's avatar

I bet he will be able to give an answer. How do I get in touch with him
    on CSS forum?

  • Unknown's avatar

Post into the CSS forum with your new thread, then either @TSP or one of the other staff will help you – @TSP is great, but the others that help in the forum are also very sharp

Choose CSS from the drop down on where your question should be posted

    Hello Auxclass,

I save the changes, by selecting:

“Allow search engine to index this site.”

What I did not see is, “visited by everyone” button.

Well, still waiting for the blog to get back in action.

    Rafiq

Allow search engines to index this site

Is the correct setting – I can now see: http://thestupidcommonman.com/ fine

Remember you will work in the Dashboard of the base blog you mapped to here, not thestupidcommonman.com –

looks like you are good to go
