Mapping to GoDaddy

  • Unknown's avatar

I have a site here and domain through GoDaddy- if I pay the $13 mapping fee to map to the Godaddy domain, will I have to pay GoDaddy $15 renewal fee? And if so- why am I able to purchase a domain through WordPress for $18 (which hosts it through Godaddy as with my Whimsypixphoto site through WordPress)

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

You pay GoDaddy for ownership of your domain, that is, domain registration. The mapping upgrade with us is only to connect the domain to your WordPress.com site, but does not renew your ownership of the domain through GoDaddy, so you will need to pay us both.

The $18 upgrade is if you register a domain directly with us, meaning you pay us for ownership of the domain. In that case the mapping is included in the cost.

It’s not possible to transfer the registration of your domain to us, so you will need to keep paying GoDaddy for ownership of the domain.
