Mapping unsupported gTLD

  My domain which is a .channel gTLD registered on Porkbun is not supported by wordpress.com, I would really like to use it for my WordPress site but don’t know of any alternative way to set it up. Any assistance would be appreciated.

  Hi @thebigjohnnyv,

  That is correct. At the moment, .channel domains aren’t supported on WordPress.com due to restrictions set by the domain registry. You can see more about supported domain extensions here:

  As an alternative, you have a couple of options:

  • Add a new domain to your WordPress.com site using a supported TLD (like .com, .net, .blog, etc.).
  • Set up a redirect from your .channel domain via Porkbun to forward visitors to your WordPress.com site. For example: yourname.channel → yourname.blog.

  In addition to what @josefhtest mentioned, you also have the option to purchase a paid plan and connect your .channel domain without transferring its registration. You can follow the steps outlined in this guide to connect your domain without transferring it:
