Mapping wordpress theme to domain
-
I think I screwed up :(
I created a wordpress account and I purchased a domain from bluehost.
Bluehost linked me to mojo where it said I was purchasing a wordpress theme. I bought a theme and had it set up. Unfortunately my domain and my wordpress (mydoman.wordpress.com) are two separate sites.
If I map my domain to my wordpress at this point, will I lose everything I have on my domain? I’m (clearly) tech illiterate so I’m concerned about losing the theme I already paid to have setup.
Many thanks

Hi there! It sounds like you’ve setup a WordPress install on Bluehost, so yes, that’s different than a site that would be hosted here on WordPress.com. :/
You can map your domain to your WordPress.com site, however that means it’ll display what you have built here, and not the site with the theme you purchased elsewhere. (All of the themes available here can be found on this page: https://wordpress.com/themes/.)
If you decide to switch to using WordPress.com and have any questions, be sure to let us know! :)

Just realized… What’s the name of the theme you purchased? Sometimes we have the same theme, but in a WordPress.com version. If so, you could request a refund for the version you purchased and re-buy it here and move over that way. :)
Then you could use your domain from Bluehost and map it to WordPress.com to use the WordPress.com hosting.
If you’re not sure which one you want to use (hosting on .com or not), this chart can be helpful in deciding: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ (Note: .org is the kind of WordPress you would use with Bluehost.)
WordPress.com is a great choice especially if you want to focus on your content and have lots of the behind-the-scenes management of your site handled for you, so you can handle theme setup + content and be ready to go.
I know it can be confusing to figure out which thing goes with what and how at first, so feel free to pop back in with any questions and we’ll get you sorted out one way or another! (And let me know which theme you’ve got if you’d like me to check to see if we offer a version of it here.)
