margielangston.com vs. margiesfrenchtrip – help!!

I need to fix my site. It is supposed to be a general site about me, Margie Langston, with the address of http://www.margielangston.com. I intended to make several pages, one of which was a blog specifically for my trip to France, called margiesfrenchtrip. What seems to have happened is that the blog, which was supposed to be within my site, became its own site called margielangstonblog.wordpress.com. I don’t know how to fix this except to remove the french trip postings entirely, remove the margielangstonblog subcategory and start to build my site again, which should be margielangston.com, with several different pages devoted to different topics such as my playwriting, acting and other things. I don’t know where to start with deleting the correct thing and unscrambling this mess. Can you help?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Have you written any blog posts yet? If I’m looking in the right place, it seems like you haven’t which makes this problem pretty easy to take care of.

The first thing is you won’t need the “margiesfrenchtrip.wordpress.com.” site at all. Do whatever you need to do to make sure you don’t accidentally post there when you mean to post to your main site.

It also looks like you are only using static pages for your site, which means you’ve probably followed this procedure to create a static home page: http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/.

Now create a page on your site called “Margie’s French Trip” (or whatever you want to call it) and publish it. Don’t worry about writing anything on the page, it’s just a placeholder. Then go to Settings>Reading on your dashboard and set your posts to go to the page (Margie’s French Trip) that you just set up. (If any of that is confusing, just go back to the link above. The process is all laid out there as well.

Once that’s all done, make sure your blog page shows up in your menu by following these instructions: http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/

and you should be all set.

Thanks for your quick response. I still don’t understand why, when I go to log in to the dashboard of my original site, http://www.margielangston.com/wp-admin, it immediately turns into http://margiesfrenchtrip.wordpress.com with a dashboard that doesn’t have my front page on it that I can find. I actually do have 5 posts on the french trip blog, but I’ve saved them to my computer and now I want to get rid of that blog, and get back to my original front page, from which I can then add pages and blogs, if I want. I need to untangle it, even if I have to erase all the content. i just don’t want to pick another name and start over with a new site.

Ok, it looks like there are actually 3 different sites involved here.

    1) your professional site: http://margielangston.com/
    2) the site where your blog posts are showing up: http://margielangstonblog.wordpress.com/
    3) an empty site associated with your current log-in: http://margiesfrenchtrip.wordpress.com/

My bet is you in accidentally created a new username when you started the blog about your trip in a totally separate account, which is why you can’t get back to your original website. To get back to it, you’ll need to remember the username and password associated with that site.

Once you do that, you should be able to export your posts from http://margielangstonblog.wordpress.com/ and import them into your original website: http://margielangston.com/

If that’s all a bit overwhelming just focus on remembering what you might have used as a username and password for your original site. Once you have that, we can do the other pieces step by step.
