markdown reference-style links does not work, please see http://richardhsu.net/2014/05/19/e-ink/

It expect “[Kobo Touch][1]” to generate a link using the reference section but it does not. Please advise. Thanks.

    Hi there,

I see what you mean. I did some testing and discovered the problem is just the quotation marks being used around the link titles (e.g. “Kobo Touch”) in your reference section.

Right now, your reference section is using curly quotes:

You’ll need to replace those with straight quotes instead:

You may want to try viewing the reference section in the Text editor instead of the Visual editor if you have trouble seeing the difference between the straight and curly quotes. The Text editor shows the curly quotes a bit more clearly than you’ll see them here in the forums or in the Visual editor.

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

Works! Thanks. I did use the Text editor but pasted from Google Docs where it got the curly quotes. Will keep that in mind.

By the way, you just ‘engineered’ happiness. Is ‘Happiness Engineer’ an official title/designation? It is really nice.

I’m glad that worked for you. :) Word processing programs like Google Docs or Word can often sneak in those curly quotes if you’re not careful.

And yes, “Happiness Engineer” is my official title. It’s a fun job! :)

FYI, in Google Docs, I removed automatic curly quotes by removing the check in “Use smart quotes” in Tools > Preferences…
