Markdown with New Block Editor

  I’m trying to learn the ins and outs of the new block editor after years of using classic HTML view. I’ve located the classic view, but I can’t make the markdown code work for a referenced link as I’ve done before. Is markdown compatible with the new block (verse) editor? Thanks.
