Marked as mature?
-
Hi :)
Since last week I’ve seen my views drop significantly from an average of 488 to an average of 209. That’s a drop of more than 50%. It seems that I’m getting a lot less traffic from search engines.
This led me to think that perhaps my blog has been flagged as mature. This may make sense as I write on sexual education topics at times and a certain post on the content of semen might have done the trick.
Anyway I’d love it if you could tell me whether or not I’ve been marked as mature, and if so which were the offending posts so that I can remove them and get my “normal” status back.
Thanks in advance!
Rohan.

It is very likely that you have been flagged as Mature, under the circumstances, but the drop in hits you’re seeing is universal. People are reporting losing up to 90% of their regular readership. I think it has something to do with the problems at Google recently, but am not 100% sure.
Nice blog, by the way!

@raincoaster Whoa, 90%!
Yes, I’ve noticed the loss of traffic is coming from search engine hits, my usual community and friends are still reading my posts. My most popular posts which were getting around 50 or 60 hits per day in July are not getting hits in the teens and low twenties.
Thanks for the info, and the kind words about my blog :)
Rohan.

It sounds like you’re on the right track. I would not worry too much about getting set as Mature by WP.com. It didn’t please a friend of mine when she was marked as Mature, but she subsequently got an offer to write a screenplay from someone who found her blog on Google.
Staff do review the Mature ratings from time to time, and do reverse decisions. I was set as Mature more than once, appealled, and won. So hang in there till staff answers.

http://rohan7things.wordpress.com/ is not marked as mature. If it were, then the link at the end of the original post would be visible to moderators and staff only. Also the username link would have been disabled in these public forums.
A blog that is marked as Mature is excluded from public areas of the WordPress.com service. This means:
- It is not eligible to be featured in Freshly Pressed on the front page of WordPress.com
- It will not appear in global tag listings
- It will not appear in Top Blogs listings, recent posts, or related posts listings on other blogs
- The blog’s users cannot use that URL as a link in their WordPress.com Forums profile
-
The username link WAS disabled. Even though the link at the end of the first post was enabled.

I think there is sometimes something wonky with links to usernames.
(or it could be my internet connection, though Comcast was here the other day and it seems better) because I notice sometimes they are functional and sometimes not. Even for my own name. But it could be the wonky internet connection I have (had??).
At any rate, I’ve not noticed that the link which says “moderators and staff only” has been wrong, so you wouldn’t have seen the link below the o.p. at all.

I did see it. I noticed the anomaly. In any case, with that blog, I don’t think there’s any harm done.
