Mass adjust of photo sizes

  I have about 410 photos uploaded at a much larger size than was needed. As a result the photos are loading slow. I have a very fast internet connection at home and really never noticed it. Some close friends are telling me the only thing they don’t like about my web site is how slow the images load. My website is being used for a more commercial use and has started to make me some real money. Yeah!!! I want to adjust the images sizes so they both still look great, the same high quality on retinal display, and load fast.

  Here are my 2 questions –
  1. Can I make the changes to many images at one time or do I have to do this one image at a time?
  2. What is the best size for fast loading and high quality? I would like the dimensions, ratio and size.

  Congrats on starting to make money from your website! :)

  1. Can I make the changes to many images at one time or do I have to do this one image at a time?

  The media editor only works on one image at a time, so you’ll need to edit each one individually. You can resize them by heading to your Media Library and clicking on the first image you want to change. Under the image, click the “Edit Image” button.

  In the image editor, you’ll see a “Scale Image” section in the upper right. Enter the new image size you want there, and click the “Scale” button. That’ll save the resized image, and you can click the left/right arrow buttons in the top right to move on to the next image.

  2. What is the best size for fast loading and high quality? I would like the dimensions, ratio and size.

  That depends a lot on your site’s theme and how it displays images, as well as how you want to use the images you’ve uploaded. Your site’s Photography theme has a maximum width of 960 pixels for the content that’s displayed there, so I’d recommend using images that are at least 960 pixels wide. The Photography theme’s support page also has more details about the exact image dimensions used in various parts of the theme.

  If you have any other questions or concerns about the best size of images in that theme, I’d recommend getting in touch directly with the theme’s author for their recommendations. You can do that by posting in the Photography theme’s premium support forum:
