my own theory is that Automattic is positioning wordpress.com and maybe some of their other “properties” to be sold to ATT or some other telecom

I’m so glad I found this topic and that people are voicing the same discontent I’ve been feeling for months now. I remember when I started using WordPress a few years ago I said to my wife ‘Finally, internet for adults!’ as I was really happy with how it worked and thought I could finally leave FB and all that horrible blue and white stuff behind. Then the dashboard changed from gray.. into that blue and white facebook color scheme. And then suddenly something popped up saying ‘Howdy..’ etc. to me out of nowhere, then something started going ‘beeb beeb boop’ for no reason at all and now my dashboard is different every day and almost unusable. While it was all fine when I started using WordPress. So apparently they want to change it into facebook or whatever. And now that i’ve seen this costumer service where someone gets paid to placate the users with that typical big company newspeak as if we’re either childeren or geriatrics the whole thing makes me want to puke. “Happiness engineers”? Just be professional dammit, or even better, have some dignity. I’m not expecting this to get better so I will also be looking for an alternative, sadly I already paid for quite a lot of storage space as I was expecting to be using this platform for a while.

Moral of aasgier’s story: do *never* ever pay for a site. Your money will roll quite the other way than you intended, namely to finance changes that make you want to puke.

Haha, yes, but you might also say that paying for something that is mostly free might help to keep it free and hopefully unchanged (as the changes are done in pursuit of profit, I guess). But actually it’s more the attitude with which all of this is happening than the changes themselves that make me want to puke. I would gladly pay for a service such as WP or even FB (in the beginning) if they guaranteed to remain as they are when you join them, actually (or if they do change, make it optional how far you want to go in following the changes). I’m getting sick of ‘free’ platforms that change after a while and mess everything up. As they are free, you generally aren’t in much of a position for negotiation. (A few weeks ago my very old myspace account barfed out all my pictures on google images as if there never was any privacy agreement at all. Luckily I still knew my password etc..
Anyway..) I was quite confident that WP wouldn’t go that route. I was indeed wrong. -

Not a chance. A site starts as an “intelligently thought out” entity, serving the purpose it is originally meant for. As time goes by the project changes from a personal pursuit of some dedicated people into a business venture and from there it *dumbs down* to meet with the superficial demands of the masses. End of story.

@aasgier, I also totally agree with you. The WP blue and white color scheme with no custom colors like our dashboard is one of the main reasons I do not use the “new, too-blue-to-use” BBB editor and the other WP pages, including Reader, new Stats page, etc.
I wonder how many bloggers here even know that we do have custom color options for our dashboard and administrative pages, including the classic editor?
Go to left side bar, click on Users, then Personal Settings to change your color scheme.
The blue and white WP color scheme reminds me of Facebook, too.
@mabelamber, totally agree with you, too. I’ve seen this happen all too frequently.

I’ve just caught sight of the the new notifications.
Again more scrolling and deficient. That is, there is no immediate view of time stamp. Yet more clicking.
This is becoming like something from Alice in Wonderland.

Again the new notifications. I’ve just noticed that there is not the usual bent arrow reminder that one has made a reply. In fact no indication of status at all.

There’s a thread about the notifications where they’ve advised they’re looking at reply indicators and view filtering but so far nothing else.

The whole thing is a sad joke – they clearly have no clue about what their users use or want. Whoever ‘designed’ the new notifications system must never have tried to use it. I’d love to know who beta-tested it…

I am glad that people are sharing their feedback here (I would not have known about this topic if it were not for other bloggers who mentioned this on their blogs, thank you, and I am sure that most people do not know about this topic to come give their feedback here too unfortunately so that the developers will have a better idea of what most people want and do not want), there are so many different things that I could give feedback on that I am not sure where to start and many people have probably already named many of them in this topic, and so I will not try to make another list like I normally would do with screenshots/and more because I have not taken the time to read through all the pages of comments and I am feeling overwhelmed.
But I would like to recommend that if possible that every missing feature (Reader, Updated Stats (Countries, and more), Posts I Like, Blogs I Follow (Updated), Comments I Made (Updated), Freshly Pressed, Recommended Blogs, Find Friends, and more) that currently is not in the Classic Dashboard be added to the Classic Dashboard, so that those of us who like the Classic Dashboard, and those of us who like to access everything in one place will not have to keep jumping around to various disconnected places to use missing features and updated features that are not available in the Classic Dashboard.
And I hope that a lot of the feedback here and on other topics is used to improve those other areas that are disconnected from the Classic Dashboard and some of the issues in the Classic Dashboard itself because there seems to be a big/huge disconnect between what the developers like/want/think/and more versus what the users like/want/think/and more, and I think that better solutions/compromises/decisons/and more can be found/made if the developers would do a better job of listening/asking questions/polling/announcing planned changes when possible and/or big enough/forming volunteer beta testing groups/making more balanced flexible common sense design decisions meant to work for a larger variety of people/and more with us users first to help avoid many of these same problems that keep happening with many of these changes/updates/and more.

It looks as if all this effort is beginning to pay off. The notifications have been restored and the ability to click on the “Edit” link on a post and transfer directly to the classic (i.e. fully functional editor).

2/If we press on perhaps we can get drop-down navigational/sign out menus on ‘https://wordpress.com/my-stats/’ and the reader. That would be simple enough; allow users to get around the hated incursions, solve most peoples problems and give WP breathing space to sort out the deficiencies in the alternate UI.
WP could then develop the UI for mobiles and offer a 3 choices at login:-
As set – According to a choice in personal settings – the default
Desktop
MobileThen everybody could be “Happy”, well at least no longer so miffed off.

However, in the matter of new editor, there is one concern that needs urgent attention. That is, it does not auto-save (to the WP servers) and has a tendency to accidentally delete work in progress. Users have lost their draft work as a result.

The fully functional editor needs some work. Such as a reliable wysiwyg placement of images and the the correct rendering of CR’s. It would benefit from more, but that would be start.

If WP can at least get it’s head around sections 2/ and 3/, then life will get easier for all and I may not need to put myself to all the trouble of producing any more damaging posts and placing them further afield than at present.And yes, they are meant to be damaging, what else can I do when we have all been subject to “Do it first without warning, buffer and exhaust the complaints then plow on regardless.

Honestly, this is all such a disaster.
I can’t get to the old dashboard except by a time-wasting round-about way. That’s all I want! I just to be able to go STRAIGHT to the old dashboard when I login.

Oh yea, and even LOGGING OUT has become a pain. How is it that I can logout from a drop-down menu when I’m on someone else’s wordpress blog or site, but NOT when I’m on my own blog!!

The ability to get from publication to fully functional editor using the “edit” link is only true of pages not posts.
My apologise for forgetting what a inconsistent shambles this.

The more I deal with the new stats page the more frustrated I get. At this point, I would like to hear an assessment of the new page from someone working at wordpress. Aside from being a mobile friendly page (debatable), how is it improved over the old one?
