Massive site transfer
-
Hello!
I’ve been running a music website for just over two years now. When I began it, it was very much a small personal project. Fast forward two years and it’s nationwide in Australia, and industry recognised.

My problem?
The web host I use just can’t match the content. It’s very basic.
I started on Weebly because I had no idea about blogging or html coding, website construction. It’s done me well until now, when I need to move into the next phase of the site.
I want to move onto WordPress, specifically using this theme which I’ve already purchased. Link – https://www.gavick.com/wordpress-themes/rockwall,126.html
However, I think I’ve under estimated what needs to be done.
Ideally, I’d like to build this site in secret and re-lauch later in the year, and manually port all of my content over to WordPress. However, this will take me quite a bit of time, and I’d like to keep the current site running while this happens.
The problem is, WordPress says I need to register with a host and FTP to install the Gavick profile, and to register a domain name, most likely on Bluehost. I understand all this.
My question is, can I begin construction under an alias URL, and later switch over to http://www.the59thsound.com, or do I have to change it to a http://www.the59thsound.com upon signing up with Bluehost?
Is it possible to change your url once signed up with Bluehost?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can’t use an externally purchased theme on a WordPress.com blog; they are for WordPress.ORG blogs on paid hosting.
Other than that, I don’t see anything on your site that can’t be done on WP.com. You don’t have ads, you use Soundcloud embeds, and you don’t seem to use affiliate links. So at this point you could go either with a paid host like Bluehost and software from WordPress.ORG and use your bought theme, or you can blog at WordPress.com on one of the themes on your dashboard Themes page. It’s up to you.

First – there are TWO types of “WordPress” – read below for more on the difference
For more on the difference: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
You should be able to build your site on Blue Host in secret and launch it by moving your domain name to the Blue Host site – but you will need to make friends at Blue Host and WordPress.ORG for the exact details
This is WordPress.COM – a glance at your site – looks like no ads etc – so you might also be able to move it here – review the Terms of Service to make sure –
The advantage of being here is you don’t need to learn about how to maintain a site – lots of bandwidth and the Staff here take care of updating the software and things like that – and you have this great support forum (the WordPress.ORG forum is also great by the way)
Down side – some TOS limits – only use the 220++ themes that are here – no third party themes can be uploaded
And if you ever decide to sell your own ads and such it is easy to export from here to a host like Blue Host and you can even pay the staff to transfer your site for you
So you need to do a bit more research and thinking about your options.

PS – you can set your site here to Private and keep everyone out while you build your new site –
