  I am fairly new to editing. I would like to change my main photo on home page to a carousel. I have installed plugins to do this. How do I then use the plugin to make the changes?

  Right, in that case, you’ll want to go to https://coolbananasbackpackers.com/wp-admin and follow the instructions from the plugin developers to create a new slider:
