Mathjax plugin on wordpress.com
-
I’m absolutely new, so kindly treat a possibly stupid question as such. I just signed up for a wordpress.com account only to blog math and CS using mathjax. I know there is a plugin which I downloaded, but – from my understanding – all instructions on how to make it work relate to unzipping and storing the files in a plug-in sub-folder of your root-directory if you use the wordpress.org; the answers I found are also very old. My understanding is that the .org solution means that you enable wordpress on your own web page (via whichever hosting company you use), whereas the .com solution handles all hosting issues for you. It would be easy to find where wordpress is on my own web-page with a hosting company; but I searched my (Windows Pc) hard-drive, and the only wordpress references were from a google cache.
So how do you enable mathjax for a .com account?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No you cannot install any plugins. There are many built-in plugins in WordPress.COM blogs. In fact the JetPack plugin for WordPress.ORG installs provides what we have built-into our WordPress.COM blogs.
There is no FTP access and no blogger installed plugin capability on any free hosted WordPress.COM blogs and there is no upgrade you can purchase here that changes that reality.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there.

WordPress.org support docs are at https://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page -
WordPress.com supports LaTeX, a typesetting system that’s really good at formatting mathematical formulas & equations and more information on how to use it can be found in this support doc. https://en.support.wordpress.com/latex/

Thank you very much, @timethief. That is a shame. Allow me one follow-up question: when I went to the plugin page, I only got a list which said something to the sort of “many plugins, including…”. Is there a complete list somewhere?

Oh, also that’s cool – mathjax is just Latex for dummies, so I should be able to use that instead. :)
