MathML and SVG not supported because …?

This is a post in the Ideas forum. I’m very happy with WordPress, and am not reporting a bug or suggesting a feature.

I would like is to understand why the markup language MathML and the vector graphics format SVG are not supported at wordpress.com. Both of these are mentioned as parts of HTML 5. I can see why scripting languages are not supported since that would import code into a shared computing environment. But MathML and SVG are not executable, at least not in themselves.

Is there some security risk that I don’t understand? Or are these resource-intensive? Or is it more that these would be expensive to implement and little-used, so implementation can’t be justified business-wise? I’m not seeing this one.

Just wondering what my fellow geeks out there might have to say about this. Not looking for some kind of definitive answer. Thanks.
