Mature Content

It’s stated on the Mature Content page that text/imagery/videos featuring Nudity and Offensive Language (etc) IS allowed – however, below that it states that ‘sexually explicit acts’ that can be considered ‘pornographic’ are not permitted.

With Tumblr cracking down on Adult Content by banning ALL NSFW material, a lot of fandom creators (artists and writers) are in need of another platform to share their creations. So my question is this:

Is sexually explicit written Fanfiction allowed on WordPress? Are we allowed to add sexually explicit imagery (whether fanart created from scratch or gifs adapted to suit) allowed in that context? If we’re not posting ‘porn’ but rather storytelling with visual aids, what is the verdict on that?

Also, where is the option to mark our blogs as NSFW? There is less need for established fandom fams to appear in search results because we know each other’s other social platforms, ie. we know where to find new blog links (like WordPress) – so that’s not an issue. We’re happy to conceal our content and just share amongst our group. But as far as I can tell the only way to mark a blog NSFW is to have someone actually report it as such? Is that really true? Is there bo other option for a blog owner to mark their own content/blog as NSFW?

These are the things Tumblr refugees need to know.

WordPress.com uses the term “mature” rather than “NSFW”
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/mature-content/ contains the appropriate link:
https://wordpress.com/abuse/ to mark your own site mature.
I have added a tag to ask a member of staff to reply to you regarding your other questions.

  • Good morning –

With out seeing the actual material we can’t really give a verdict on whether or not it would be permitted on WordPress.com.

I can field more specific questions about your content, privately via email. Let me know if that’s something you’re interested in doing.

  • I don’t see any content on that WordPress.com site. Have you started an import already?

Please connect your Tumblr account to WordPress.com and start that process.

    Import a Website

Hi! I’ve just started the import (its about a third of the way through 300-odd posts atm).

I’ve reported my blog as Mature – and have received a confirmation email as well – but I do have It set as Public (not Private or Hidden).

I would be happy to email about this (honestly that would be wonderfully helpful). As of right now though, there are a few posts already imported which feature nude visuals as well as what may be considered “pornographic” content (sexually explicit imagery, ie. gifs and stills) and this is the content I need clarification on.

If you are able to take a look at my imported posts and let me know if they’re compliant to the Mature Content Guidelines I would really appreciate it. (Are they “okay”? Do I need to make my blog Private or Hidden in order for them to stay on my blog and post similar content in the future?)

Please feel free to email me your response or pop it in here (if that’s allowed) so others may find it useful (which may be so, now more than ever due to the impending Tumblr ban).

    Thanks again!

  • Good morning –

I’ll follow up by email. Watch for that to come through soon.

  • Ok, I’ve sent that note along via email. Write back to me there.
