max amount of blog posts not working??????

  hi, i am having a weird wordpress post problem. i have over 20 posts on my blog that i want to show all. when i go to ‘settings” and change the amount of posts to show, i put in 20 ( becuase that is how much i have now) … now, my problem is that after i press “save” and log out, when i check my site out it will show all 20 posts but for only a short while. for some reason about 1/2 hour later when i log back into my wordpress account and check the amount of posts to show in the reading area under settings, it is at 5 and not 20 anymore? i am really confussed and can someone tell me if i am doing any thing wrong and how to fix this??
