Max # of pages that show as tabs?
-
I have a recipe blog with the Digg 3 theme with page tabs at the top. I’d like to have a page tab for each recipe category. However, only the number of tabs that can fit on one line appear at the top of the page. Is there a max # of page tabs that can be visible at one time? I’d prefer this method rather than using parent/child — I’d really like to have all recipe categories appear as page tabs at the top, and was hoping they’d be arranged in rows if they overflow the first row. Can this be done?
I’ve searched the forums and support and can’t find anything that answers this specific question.
Thanks,

it depends how long your page names are if there long then you wont get many
tabs if there short names then you can squeeze more tabs also it depends
on the theme. -
This is a theme issue. I have seen this in other themes but generally it looks a bit sloppy with multiple rows. I recall only 2 or 3 themes where I have seen this and sorry I can’t remember exactly which ones.

Digg 3 has a severe design mistake: if you add pages that exceed the width of the header, they do get arranged in rows, but everything after the first row gets hidden by the header image! Perhaps you should try another theme that displays rows of pages properly (e.g. Andreas09).

Thank you.
Is there a way to fix this in Digg 3 using CSS? I have the custom CSS upgrade. If not, then is there an easy way to find a theme that handles the tables better without having to try each one?

One suggestion would be to hide the top navigation and then use the pages widget at the top of the sidebar, that way you will not run into issues with too many navigation tabs.

Thank you, I may do that.
I’ve gone through every theme and the one that looks best with this many tabs is Andreas09. However, I prefer the Digg 3 theme and LOVE the appearance of the big bold tabs at the top…. too bad the second row breaks. :-(
I’ll try to figure out a clever way around this.

I’m in the process of developing a blog, somewhat recipe related…also using Digg 3 after trying most every theme like you. Since you have the CSS upgrade, maybe you’ll find a more artful way around the design problem.
My current solution, as mentioned above, is to use the Page widget. Using categories is okay, except readers have to scroll through everything to find what they want, unless they know what they’re looking for and do a search. I’m using child pages to post the permalink for each recipe.
My approach may or may not appeal to you, but you can check it out: http://chinapasticcio.wordpress.com/
