  can you just tell them they cannot post to people’s boxes anymore? Can you perhaps give users the option to block them like comment spam? Or, and I think this is a good idea, don’t include referrals into stat counts. They make the stat count an utterly useless tool, and the funny thing is, you advertise the stat count as a benefit of wordpress. But it is not a benefit at all. It is a dysfunctional spamhole that no one can cover with a lid.
