Maximise width in Pages
-
I’m trying to put photos with as much resolution as possible in a Photography Page. The only options are the default template or wide with one side column. Choosing wide, I experimented to see how wide I could get them, and it appears to be 800. But the blank column on the left makes the page look lopsided.
Ideally, I want to use the full page width, without any columns. Failing that, I either want to use the left column for something – photo descriptions, background etc. – or center the photos with smaller columns on either side, while still maximising the width of the photos to at least 800.
Don’t know if any of this is possible, but I could use some help. Thanks.

You mean as much width as possible, not resolution. Since you’re posting non-clickable images, you should post images at a resolution of 72 (which is what browsers display), downsized to the right width in an image editing application before uploading them. See here too:
http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/01/16/image-quality/The theme you’re using isn’t designed to display a wider main column in no-sidebar pages. So I suggest you switch to a different theme.
Check this for default widths:

And this, for other themes that support no-sidebar pages: -
Thanks for the information, panaghiotisadam. I’ll take a look some other themes, but I really like my present choice, so I might have to live within its constraints.
