Maximize functionality on WordPress.com
-
So I am working to make a functioning website on WordPress.com with almost no budget. Because our site needs to be hosted, I’m trying to figure out a way to get all the functionality I possibly can.
I understand that plugins are not compatible with wordpress.com, however I’m looking to have both a responsive calendar and a carousel for my site. I’ve connected iCal and have that working for now. Is there a way to find a free plugin from wordpress.org for a carousel plugin and calendar plugin and just copy the code into my wordpress.com site, for both these items? Or any other workaround you suggest in my position?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Great thanks! Also, I am making a test site, which I will eventually transfer to the official site when it is complete. If I pay for a theme, can I transfer that as well to my other site?

No. Themes are not transferable and I do not recommend your approach at all. Post sliders (carousels) are theme specific features. Image files are only attachments when you move your site content.
I would not take this approach you propose. I would hire a web host http://wordpress.org/hosting/ set up a wordpress.ORG install from the get go.
We provide support only for wordpress.COM hosted sites. Our support docs do not apply to
(1) local installs of wordpress.ORG software on your own server or
(2) wordpress.ORG software installs on paid hosting, and we do not provide support for them at wordpress.COM.Also, note that we do not provide Jetpack support https://jetpack.me/support/ for sites linked to wordpress.COM accounts with the Jetpack plugin.
WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG account, then click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right-hand corner of the page that opens, https://wordpress.org/support/register.php so you can post to the support forums there.

yes. I checked out the differences between these previously and because we have almost budget, we are trying to see what we can do within the confines of wordpress.com only. I was just checking to make sure that there is no way I can get either a subdomain or another way to make a test site (even if it’s a free theme) that I wont have to recreate when I decide to publish?
