He also said that POINTS TO: * is supposed to receive a four-section “number URL,” not a “name URL.” I don’t know the correct terminology, but it’s the four numbers with dots between them.

The gentleman you spoke to was just slightly confused. He had you looking at an A-record rather than a CNAME. They are similar but not the same. An A-record does indeed require an IP address (four sets of numbers, separated by periods), however a CNAME requires a phrase (known as a “string”). Again, in this case it would be your WordPress.com address without the http://. Just “clarityclusters.wordpress.com”.

Technically forwarding with masking can work, however it will cause some problems. Our stats will not track visitors correctly, and commenters on your site may sometimes have problems logging in. With that said, if you prefer to just use forwarding with masking we cannot stop you.

Okay, let’s see if I’ve got this right. I’ve changed the cname as you suggested, and I’ve deleted the forward with masking. The site now seems to work. So if I understand correctly, now what I have to do is go in and change all of the internal references, which if I’m not mistake, I’ll be able to find with Omnisearch.

    Hi there!

Everything looks just right for your site on my end, too. You’re all set with that part of the process!

If you have references to old domains in your site’s content, yes, you’ll need to go ahead and update those. The references to claritycommunity.org will continue to work as long as that domain is still registered, but if you update them now you won’t need to worry about keeping that domain around if you no longer need it.

For example, you can find references to claritycommunity.org by searching Omnisearch like this: https://clarityclusters.wordpress.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=omnisearch&s=claritycommunity.org

Please let us know if we can do anything more to help with that. :)
