Maybe this is advertising and maybe it isn't

I would like to start a blog here but need to know if what I plan is acceptable under the terms.

I transcribe logs of historic sea voyages and publish them as payed eBooks on iBooks, Kindle, etc. I want to publish my books in installments of a voyage week once every current week. See http://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/12/24/1265174/-Gold-Rush-Journal?detail=hide for an example.

I plan to include a “Available on XXXXXX” link in a sidebar. About half way through a voyage, I plan to switch to another voyage in the hopes the readers will want to buy the previous book to see how things work out.

Obviously i’m advertising, but I’m also providing original content with a value of it’s own.

I can see how WordPress.com could go either way on this. I won’t be offended if my approach is rejected. I’ll just go somewhere else.

    Thanks

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The more I think about this, the more I think this is the wrong idea. At this stage I want anyone to read my books, and I don’t care at all about making any money. I just want people to read them and review them.

If I decide to use wordpress.com, I will publish the complete set of installments not just the first half. I will also offer a promo code so that anyone can down load the entire book from iBooks for free. This is not possible with Kindle. When I add more distribution sites, I will add free access to the entire book where it is permitted.

This clearly complies with the terms. Perhaps i will sign up for a paid account as well. I’m still thinking about all this.

  • You original idea complied with our terms too. :)

It’s perfectly acceptable to advertise your own products.
