McKinley theme: Galleries not available?

  • Unknown's avatar

I switched to the McKinley theme from another theme (I forget which now) when my client wanted to downgrade from Business hosting to Free hosting. Now I find Galleries aren’t available on the blog. I checked the forum, and others refer to using Galleries with this theme. Can anyone suggest a resolution for this problem?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there — yes, you’re able to create galleries on McKinley. Here are a few examples of a blog using galleries on McKinley:

A post set with the Gallery post format: http://thenomadicwordsmith.wordpress.com/2014/07/24/dreaming-of-elsewhere/

A post with a Tiled Gallery, set with the Standard post format: http://thenomadicwordsmith.wordpress.com/2014/07/24/wanderlust/

When you’re creating a gallery for a post in the Media Library, you can also use the other gallery types (Circles, Squares, etc.) as well.

On your previous theme, did you have any posts or pages that had galleries that have since disappeared?

Thanks for responding. One of the themes I tried had sliders… I don’t remember trying to use Galleries with that theme. At any rate, the Galleries option doesn’t show for the blog, and I’m wondering if/how I can fix it. Should I export, delete and re-import the blog? I’m very reluctant to take that step, if I can resolve the problem any other other way.

The gallery option is available on McKinley (thumbnails, tiled mosaic, square, circles, slideshow) — as well as the “slider” look you mention (like this: https://cloudup.com/cgay_osScWI). To do this, when you’re drafting a new post, click Add Media > Create Gallery > select your images > click Create a New Gallery > and choose your settings (you can select any gallery type in the dropdown). Then, on the post screen, be sure to set the Post Format as “Gallery.”

The steps above will show a slider-type gallery on a post on your blog, as shown in the screenshot.

However, I believe this slider-gallery look is available on posts only, not pages, since there’s no option to set a page in a particular post format. (Here’s a thread to a similar request.) I’m not certain, but from what you said this may be where you’re having an issue?

Should I export, delete and re-import the blog? I’m very reluctant to take that step, if I can resolve the problem any other other way.

If McKinley isn’t quite what you’re looking for, you can test out, preview, and switch to a different theme — there’s no need to export/re-import the existing content you have.

is there a theme with the option of a slider or gallery on a page, rather than a post? I haven’t been able to find one on my own.
