“McLinky” and “Linked Within” Applications

In the last couple of months, I’ve noticed some cool applications within other blogs that make use of “McLinky” and “Linked Within” add-ons. Neither seem to be options within wordpress.com. Just wondered why and if they might be available to us in the future. Linked Within would def be my preference over the wordpress “randomly generated” post links at the end of my posts. It’s one of the few times I’ve seen something in blogger and thought, “Oh, I’d like to be able to do that…” Any thoughts or input?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Typically things like that use javascript or flash or iframes and those are not allowed: http://support.wordpress.com/code/ .

I did a google seach and come up with no “mclinky” application, just a couple references to tags at blogcatalog that don’t seem to have anything to do with a widget or anything.

Linked within does not support wordpress.COM.

The reason that many widgets aren’t supported here is the code they use is not allowed here due to security concerns. Javascript and flash have brought down many of the “biggies” in the recent past, and they all have to wage a continuing war on bad code introduced by users. Since wordpress.COM is a multi-user platform, any bad or misbehaving code introduced by one blogger could bring down many, so wordpress doesn’t allow certain types of code.

Well, that makes sense. I did remember that some types of code aren’t allowed but I’m still a bit of a newbie and didn’t know the reasons. Thanks for the input! If it becomes important to me, I can always switch to wordpress.org later. Thanks again!
