Meaning of “primary” in Settings->Domain page

    I have a hosted blog on wordpress.com named socialecosystem.wordpress.com
    I also have a hosted website http://www.ambientengines.com – that site does not have a blog
    I created a subdomain blog.ambientengines.com and then followed the instructions to map the subdomain to my wordpress blog

    blog.ambientengines.com IN CNAME socialecosystem.wordpress.com

    I paid the 10 bucks and mapped the subdomain using the “Add a Domain” on the Settings->Domain page

    Everything seems to be working fine – if I type in blog.ambientengine.com it shows my blog on WordPress.com

    My question is “What does the Primary Setting on the Domain page mean?”
    When I look at the Domain page under Settings in WordPress.com it shows two choices under Primary Table with the first one marked as Primary.

    blog.ambientengines.com June 25, 2009 June 25, 2010 (Renew) N/A (external NS)
    socialecosystem.wordpress.com June 17, 2008 Never N/A

    When I type in Socialecosystem.wordpress.com it shows up in the browser as blog.ambientengines.com
    Should I care which one is set as primary?
    Does it affect any of the previous permatags or stats?

    The primary domain is simply the URL that actually appears in the web browser’s address bar when somebody is reading your blog. So – if you paid for the upgrade, you should definitely set the primary domain to reflect blog.ambientengines.com. Of course, this is up to you, and it will not have any adverse effect on your permalinks or stats. You can switch between primary domains as often as you like.
