Media blocks not opening
-
As of yesterday evening I can no longer open any kind of media block. When I click to open one nothing happens. The cursor just jumps into an existing text block and sometimes a brown line appears, but no block.
It was working fine on the 9th when I last created some new posts, and I’m not doing anything differently. The blog in question is grahamsisland.com.The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi @4gbblog, this sounds like it could be due to a browser issue, so let’s try troubleshooting that. First, would you test another browser to see if the same issue happens there?
If it does, let us know.
If it doesn’t, try disabling extensions to see if that helps, then can you confirm which browser you’re using, and its version?
And, could you try clearing your browser cache to see whether that helps? This article explains how:

Hi, Thanks for the response. I use Firefox as my browser and it says it’s up to date (version 84.0.2). I opened WordPress in Safari and it worked OK so I suspect the problem came in with the last Firefox update. However, my MacBook Pro (2015) operating system was running Catalina (10.15) so I took the opportunity to update to Big Sur (11.1) to see if that might be part of the problem. After I did this, I opened a new post in WordPress and was able to open a gallery block and put photos in it. Problem solved – or so I thought. I tried to then open an image block and the problem was still there. I also found that I could open a gallery block if I clicked the black box on the new post page, but not if I clicked the colored box up in the menu bar. This only worked because the gallery option showed up in that box. When I hit the browse all bar, I couldn’t open any media blocks.
I don’t have any extensions enabled and I very regularly clear my browser cache.
Let me know if you need more info.

Hi Graham,
I’m not able to replicate what you’re describing using the latest version of Firefox (84.0.2) on Big Sur (11.1). So, it must been something related to the installation of Firefox or another app interfering with it.
I suggest performing a fresh installation of Firefox and see if the issue is then resolved.

I tested that a bit more and found out that’s actually a bug that has already been reported to our developers and they’re working on a fix.

Thanks for that info. Hopefully, the problem will disappear soon. In the meantime, WordPress support suggested that when I click the black box on the new post page, instead of hitting the browse all bar, I should use the ‘search for a block’ instead. This appears to work so I should be good to go one way or another.

Oh good. I’ve often just used
/image
to insert an image, so that could explain why I couldn’t duplicate it earlier.
Glad you’ve got a workaround. AND, it looks like a fix has already been submitted, too:

Not working for me yet, but the workaround does, so I can get things done. Thanks for your help.
