Media Buttons and Lack There Of
-
I host my own blog northerngirlsouthernguy.com and want to add media buttons on my sidebar, which I understand can be done using a plugin. However I can’t find the plugin tool on my dashboard, making it so I can’t download a plugin and add it in for the media buttons. I tried using the gravatar widget to do this, but it only offers a few sites to verify, it doesn’t have pinterest, instagram, or bloglovin. Why don’t I have the plugin tool on my dashboard and how can I get it?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Megan!
First, are you referring to the WordPress.com blog here?
http://northerngirlsouthernguy.wordpress.com/
If so, that is a WordPress.com-hosted blog. It is not possible to install plugins on WordPress.com, for security reasons. Plugins can only be installed on self-hosted WordPress blogs. If you are wondering how WordPress.com differs from WordPress.org, this support article explains the distinction:
If you would like to create a social media icon at WordPress.com, you can do so using the tutorial here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/create-your-own-widget/
However, it looks like you have recently setup a self-hosted blog at northerngirlsouthernguy.com. Once you complete the installation there, you will have access to plugins.
Does that help to clarify everything?
