Media files didn't export
-
Hi! I used the export feature to move my site from .com to .org. All the text transferred over but I got error messages on the media. I understand that they should have been included as attachments but not a single media file is on my new host. Is there anything I can do? Should I be trying to export/import again?
If it matters, the site in question is no longer live because of activating e-mail hosting with my new host but I can access my files through kingandottawa.wordpress.com
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

When you do an export, your media isn’t included in the export file, and as part of the import process on your new hosting, the import looks for the file links to bring in the images. Changing your DNS should not have affected the import.
If the images aren’t coming over with the import, it’s possible that the server where your new hosting is located is timing out before the import is completed. Out of curiosity, are you getting the images pulled over to your new site but with links back to WordPress.com, or are the images not transferring at all?
Unfortunately, if your import process fails, it’s not something we can do much to assist with.
A few things you can try:
1. I have generated a new export file for you and will send it to you via email at the address you have listed for WordPress.com. You can try that to see if it works any better.
2. You can try this plugin to bring over the images. It’s a bit outdated but has worked for some users in the past: http://wordpress.org/plugins/add-linked-images-to-gallery-v01/
3. As a last resort, you could sign up for a Guided Transfer (assuming you are willing to use one of our recommended hosting providers). I don’t suggest this as a way to get you to purchase this upgrade. Instead, because the export/import process of a GT is different from what you would use, it’s possible that our process would work.

Thanks! The file sent worked.
I believe my original problem was that my first time around I didn’t check off the box allowing attachments. The second time around I knew better.
Maybe needing to select that option isn’t needed? Or maybe it needs to be clearer that it affects if you get your media imported or not.

Ah, yes, you will need to include attachments if you want to import them, as all images are attachment links.
I’m glad I was able to sort it out for you, though!
