Media Files still there after being deleted

Each week I update files in the media library and delete (permanently!) old media files. The next time I go to the blog to update it the supposed permanently deleted media files are still there in the library. Anyone else got this problem?

Currently, the direct web addresses to the files might continue to work for up to a few days, as they are cached. You might want to try and clear your cache. Here are the directions to do that: https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/
To delete any files or uploads from your WordPress.com blog’s Media Library, start the process by navigating to Media -> Library in your blog’s dashboard: Next, using your mouse, hover over any of the image files that you wish to remove from your library.
