Media issues

I can’t seem to format the pictures on my Sample Page. I would like to view about 3 pictures in a row. This worked OK previously – see my Home Page.
Also there appears to have been an upgrade and I now don’t know how to insert slideshows.
The Media Files are more difficult to handle. How can I best distinguish images for each page? In other words, I would like to name separate files with separate images that I can then insert on separate pages. Hope this makes sense.

    Hi there,

Currently, the photos on your home page blog post are in the form of a Gallery. On the Sample page you mention, the photos are entered individually. In order for the photos to display in the format you mention, you will need to insert them in a gallery as explained here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/

In other words, I would like to name separate files with separate images that I can then insert on separate pages. Hope this makes sense.

If I understand you correctly, you’re looking to set-up certain images on certain pages. Is that correct? For example, your Sample page currently set-up would include a group of three to four images. Then, another page would include a separate group of three to four.

If that’s correct, you will just need to enter a separate gallery on each page. Does that make sense? When creating the gallery, you will have the option to select the photos you want to include.

Let me know if that didn’t answer your question or if I misunderstood what you’re looking to do!

    Thank you Jeremy

I have now been able to update my ‘Sample Photos’ Page. However, it is still not quite clear to me how I can distinguish various image galleries as they are not individually named. Or is it simply that galleries are specifically Page or Blog related?

    Kind regards, Emmy

    Hey Emmy!

You are correct – galleries cannot be named. Instead, they are page/post related. So, for example, if you uploaded photos to your Media Library then added them as a gallery into one of your posts or pages, that same exact gallery would not be available to another post/page unless you created it. Does that make sense? Currently, it isn’t possible to “save” collections of images as galleries. You would need to upload them manually to each page.

Does that help to answer your question?

    Yes, thanks Jeremy.
I realise I need to keep up the practice on the website and not be fearful of mucking it up so to speak.
Whilst on the topic of images, I have been wondering if there is any way of securing images from being downloaded other than keeping the resolution small or watermarking them? I know that some websites don’t allow images to be copied and/or saved. Redbubble for example has some kind of protection as does Photo Box etc.

    Best wishes
    Emmy

    Hey Emmy,

Currently, that is not a feature that we offer at WordPress.com. Any image that you upload to your site is capable of being downloaded by a visitor. Your best protection against unwanted downloads is to watermark the images.

If you find that an image has been used without your permission, you can report it as content theft as described here:

    Prevent Content Theft
