I understand that the media library has a 3GB storage. However, when I deleted the media from the storage, my post that has a picture which was uploaded via media library is also gone.
Does it mean that I can’t delete the picture from the media library if i want my post to have the pictures?
If so, is there anyway to expand the media library storage?

Hi there. When you add an image to a post, you’re not actually adding the image like you would in a word processor. You’re only adding a link to where the image is stored in the library. Deleting the image from the library means that link is now pointing at nothing, so the image can’t be shown in the post.
The best way to save storage space is to optimise your images BEFORE you upload them to your media library. Your theme can display images of maximum 676 pixels wide (1280px for header images – see at the bottom of the theme support document), so resize your images to around that size before you upload them (Picasa’s export function is adequate for this, or you can use free photo editing software like Pixlr or PicMonkey). You can also use http://www.jpegmini.com/ to shrink the filesize of the image down further to save even more space.
Note, don’t try resizing images you’ve already uploaded. That will actually use more storage space, as the library will save both the original and the resized image. You can manually replace existing images with resized ones and then delete the originals, but if you have a lot of images that will take some time.

No problem. I had probably around a hundred high-res images uploaded before I learned about this. My library was almost 10% full by that time. Replaced all the imaged with optimised ones, and I’m still only at 2% full more than a year later.

I did not realize the pictures would be deleted from my posts until it was too late. Now since my pictures are gone from my media library they are gone from my blog posts. Is there any way to get the pictures back? I have no idea which pictures I used and there are over 2000 pictures. My blog site is completely ruined now, if this cannot be fixed…
