The photos for a wordpress.com slideshow must be attached to the post.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/slideshows/A slideshow will display a set of images attached to a particular post or page.
So in order for the images to be included in a post’s slideshow, you will have to re-upload copies of them to that post. They cannot be chosen from your media library if they are already attached to another post.

The wp.com software will automatically add a number to an image you have already uploaded (usually “1” I think) so you may want to rename them yourself before re-uploading them.
You might investigate this:

Hi,
I’m sorry I just don’t understand how to my new pictures to play in a slide show format. I removed old pictures from my page and uploaded new ones from my computer hard drive to my media file under the library tab, but when I go to load them on my page I don’t have an option tab for slideshow? Just edit, and an option to select them individually.. by size? How can I load them in a slide show format? I select the media tab, but it has nothing for a slideshow presentation in media..
Help Please !!
Thank youdreamworkswoodshop.com

If you want a WP slideshow in a post, you don’t upload the images via Media > Add New, you upload them via the Add Media tool of that post. You can upload them all at once, if they are in one folder in your computer; once they’re all uploaded, you click Save All Changes and you get the option to insert them as a gallery or as a slideshow.
