  When I upload an image the only thing that shows up in the library is a placeholder and the file name. The image is not visible anyplace I insert it. Images that I insert from a URL are visible.

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  No. To all of the other websites on my account. Iuventius.wordpress.com, etc.

  Apologies. I just rechecked the other sites and the problem is only with sites connected but hosted elsewhere. So, thecountinghouse.us and michaelpiatt.com do not display media – only files names.
