Media library and media attachment page
-
1. Media Library
When I am editing a post, and I click “Add media”, I get a view of my Media Library that has a “gallery” display of thumbnails of all the images in it. For me, this is a convenient way of locating any image that is already in the library, and its description.
If I want to view the library when I am not editing a post, I click on Dashboard/Media/Library. This does not give me a display of thumbnails, but gives me a list that now has 15 pages. Finding a particular image is tedious.
Do I have to pretend that I am editing a new post to get the more convenient display of the Media Library?
2. Attachment Page
I do not understand what this is, or how it is used.
What actions are included in the topic “attachment”?
When I click “View attachment page” from an image edit page, I get a page that looks just like a post on the website. It has the image identifier in place of a post title at the top. The Alternative Text appears only in the URL in the browser, where it is followed by a slash, the image identifier, a slash, and “#main”. The “attachment page” itself is mainly taken up with a very large version of the image, followed by my description of the image. There is provision for “Comments”.
If this image “attachment page” is in fact a page of my website, how can it be accessed, except while editing an image?
When I upload an image file to the Library while editing a post, there is a baffling choice under “Attachment Display Settings”. I can Link to: Media file; Attachment page; Custom URL; None. What is the effect of each of these options? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
For your first question:
Do I have to pretend that I am editing a new post to get the more convenient display of the Media Library?
Yes, if you want to view the Media Library the same way you would when you are adding Media to your Post or Page you would have to do that. Please note that you can search for images in your Media > Library page if you want.

When you upload an image you can upload/attach it to a specific post or page. When you add an image uploaded to your Media Library and then add it to a post/page it will be attached to that specific post/page. You can read more about this here:
