Media Library Internet Codes
-
Before the upgrade when I wanted to get a thumbnail code for an image I would go to Manage> Media Library> click particular image and it would bring up a list of codes (for instance thumbnail with link, thumbnail without link etc).
Since the upgrade when you click on the particular image you want it only gives you a example of it, a chance to change the description. Where can I get the uploaded thumbnail code for the picture? (I have a text box where I want to put the thumbnail on the right column of my blog and I need the code – http://thewrittenwordreviews.wordpress.com/)

Ah, if you go to Media Library and see the wee thumbnail for the image, you can right-click and get Properties. Copy the URL of that thumbnail.

But thats just a URL. Is there a way to get thumbnail codes generated like it used to have? Or have they actually gone backwards with this ‘upgrade’?

Put the URL in the pop-up box the Image icon gives you and post it that way. The URL actually contains the instructions to make it a thumbnail. Everything you see on the URL after the .jpg is the thumbnail instructions.

Shouldn’t this work around be improved? Isn’t the whole point of having a media library so you can go back and use the images, etc again in different posts, etc? Isn’t the point of a WYSIWYG editor so that less skilled individuals can publish to the web without knowing how to read image classes and urls? I have no complains for the 2.5 upgrades (mostly congrats) but this seems to be an oversight to me. I’ll be waiting patiently.

Don’t ask me. I’m not staff. I’m just here to give workarounds when things don’t work.

Upload the picture in question to a draft post as a thumbnail. Switch to the html tab, grab the code, and insert it into your text widget. Voila!
