media library upload limit question
-
I have had my WordPress blog on a free account for several years now, and I have posted a lot of images, to the point where I had used more than half of my 3 GB limit. I know a lot more now about how small an image can be to still look good on the web, so I have been planning to go back and replace a lot of my large early images with smaller versions.
Now this is not an appealing job, so I have been putting it off. Imagine my surprise today when I went to get started and discover that my dashboard says I am using less than 1% of my limit! All of my images appear to be exactly where I put them and seem to behave normally.
Not that this is bad news, but it is a huge change! Can anyone explain this?
Thanks. P

Hi there,
We had a bug a few weeks that caused the media space to be miscalculated for some sites. I forced a refresh for that calculation on your site and it’s now showing the correct figures. So unfortunately you are not at just 1% :)
And I’ve gone through the same exercise in my blog, so I know how tedious it is. But at your currently available space you should be able to get by for quite a few years if you make sure to only optimise all images from here on out. Replacing the remaining large images will definitely still make a big impact, but you still have a good chunk of storage left, as long as you’re smart about how you use it.
