media library won't upload into Pages

I have a very complicated WordPress webpage that we have had for years and I am trying to update it. I’m having a lot of trouble with the media.
I have both galleries of photos where I am using next GEN gallery and except for having to reload every single photo after a back up failure that seems to be working fine. My issue is with the media upload into Pages.
First, I cannot upload some of my photos, I am using Mac 11.6 OS and the software ‘photos’. I am correctly using the process of exporting and importing photos.
When uploading into WordPress library some of my photos upload and some do not. Why ?
Secondly, even though some of the photos do upload with picture into the library, they seem un-usable on the webpage. When I insert them into the page. they appear on the editing page, but not on the webpage when updated.
Thirdly, there seems to be an issue with placement on the page. On WordPress editing page, the photo, that I do manage to get to upload correctly, is not where I placed it in the editors page, left center or right. No amount of editing seems to place it in the correct place, after updating, it is not in the right spot on the webpage.
