Media limit

I deleted a lot of photos and several posts and yet a notice still appears saying I am near the limit of media allowed for a free wordpress site. I don’t understand as the amount of media listed is the same amount as before I did all the deleting?

Hi there,

Where are you deleting the images from? A post or the media library? You only clear the space when you delete the image from the media library.

Two things of note:
1. The amount of free space in your blog may not change for a few minutes, so please be patient.
2. The amount of space freed may not drop until 500kb of images has been deleted. (1% of the 50mb is 500kb)

Thanks for your response. I did delete them all from the media library, did it several days ago and deleted numerous photos and the blog posts they were contained in.

I’ve rechecked the media and can see that you’re down to 97% usage from 100%.

Deleting text and posts won’t have any affect on the media storage. That’s only your images and files that are added directly to the site.

That is not accurate. When I looked before deleting all the photos the number given in the warning is the EXACT same number given before I did all the deleting. ….hence my posting my question on this forum. EXACT same numbers…..no change …as in NO change.

Try signing out of WordPress.com and clearing your browser cache. See if that helps:

97% is what was there BEFORE deleting all the photos.

How many did you delete? There are still 1,426 images. You’re going to have to delete a large amount to make a dent in the storage.

Ok….guess I’ll just have to not post for awhile until I have the funds to pay for a private account. Also, when I do switch, I want to make sure all my followers go with me and not lose them like some of my other blog friends did.

I did delete quite a few. I was just shocked that it didn’t make one bit of difference. Sorry I wasted so much time doing it

Yes, all of your followers and stats will come along. You’re not going to lose anything. I’m not sure what happened to your friends previously.

Yes, it doesn’t change the site at all, it just unlocks additional features and more space.
