Media not being exported
-
Hi,
I would like to ask help for a matter.
I am trying to ‘export’ a single post from wordpress.com (free plan) to my own domain.
When I open the post in my own domain, the image is there, but its link to my wordpress.com media library and does not get imported into my own domain library. ( I did click on the “download and save media” when I import)
However, if I “export” all files and import each xml into my own domain, I will not have this problem.
Please advise what should I do?
Thank you

Hello there,
Many thanks for reaching out.
Are you able to provide a link to the site at the self-hosted site please?
It sounds like that the link that’s not changing is a manual one and would need to be changed via the post itself. Some hosting providers have a built in search and replace that would do this automatically.
However, if that’s not the case, you can run a search and replace throughout the site using this plugin here: https://en-gb.wordpress.org/plugins/better-search-replace/
I hope this helps.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
Problem is not the link.
eg:
I have a xyz.wordpress.com site, which I export only one post. Now I go to xyz.com and import the single post.
The medias (images) in my post in xyz.com did not get download into xyz.com media library, rather, ALL the images have a link to: https://xyz.files.wordpress.com/2020/01/filename.jpg?w=41
I would like the images to be imported into xyz.com media library.
I have 100+ post over at xyz.wordpress.com but I would like to export and import one by one, rather than all at once.
Is there any way to solve this problem?
Thanks

Yes, the solution would be to use the plugin @aleone89 mentioned above:

Thank you for the help.
I had tried and in order for the Better-search-replace plugin to work,
I had to first had upload the images in the xyz.com media library. And just using the “add new media” method will not work, as the newly uploaded images/media will be in current year folder, eg xyz.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/filename.jpg while the medias in my imported posts would be in link to xyz.wordpress.com/2020/01 or 2020/03. (meaning in cannot just replace the whole URL as the medias could be in many different folders)Therefore, it would be requiring many other steps to solve the problems created by another plugins in order to solve the main problem of media not being imported.
WHY can’t importing a single post be the same as importing the ‘whole’ site’. Why cannot the medias of a single post be downloaded into the new domain media library? Isn’t there any other method that works? Please help. Thanks

Hi there,
This is how the WordPress exporter works and I’m afraid there isn’t a workaround for free sites. Only a specialized exporter plugin could work in your case.
