Media professional website – advice please

  Hi all

  Lots of questions – but here goes.

  I’m a freelance copywriter and want to create a website using WordPress.

  I need a professional, clean site – not too much clutter – and, crucially, the ability to present a portfolio of my work.

  Questions:

  Is this achievable for someone like me. (Me = I have some knowledge of WordPress and quite a while back created two sites just for fun, but my knowledge is limited.)

  Or is it hard to create something fairly professional looking without getting a professional involved. I know this is a ‘how long is a piece of string question’, but…

  Can anyone suggest any good themes?

  Can anyone suggest any good ‘how to’ guides for the kind of site I’m after.

  To sum up, it needs to look good. I’m always of the opinion that no website is always better than a rubbish one, especially in the industry I work in.

  Hi. Have you tried the Theme Showcase? Here are some themes with the tag “Portfolio”.

  There are 150 themes to choose from – you should be able to find one that you like – and yes you should be able to do it yourself – if in doubt put a couple of Posts in your site then try the themes – the themes always seem to look different with “real” data in the site.

  Yes. Choose a clean theme from the ones available on your Appearance page. If you insist on a custom theme, give up writing, study web design for a few years, and design your own. Or pay someone several hundred to several thousand dollars.
