Media Replace plugin

It is killing me that I can’t replace a media file, but instead have to upload a new version, which gives it a new link (even after deleting the old version first and re-uploading the same file on the same day, i still get a new link/file name.

From what I can see, there is a plugin that fixes this, can you make it available on wordpress.com hosted sites?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

It appears that you’re aware of the fact that plugins can’t be used on sites hosted on WordPress.com. A lot of people have requested for this feature in the past, but because everyone’s sites are hosted on the same domain (WordPress.com) plugins aren’t allowed for safety concerns.

Have you thought about switching to a self-hosted site?

i’m asking if you can add this as a standard plugin? I don’t want to self-host, i just want to update a file and keep the original file name and link.

Oh sorry, my bad; I didn’t notice that this thread was in the Ideas section – I came here from the ‘Latest Discussions’ page and the other threads I replied to were from the support section.

Please stand by till a staff member responds to your suggestion.

I strongly concur with this request. It is crippling not to be able to overwrite a media file with a newer/corrected version. This would seem to be an easy capability to add, and it would benefit a large percentage of your users.
